ACTION ALERT: Net metering bill heads to the Iowa Senate

The threat to net-metering on solar energy systems is moving forward in the Iowa Legislature. Net-metering is a critical element of creating a distributed grid that keeps our energy dollars local and makes our communities more resilient and less dependent upon fossil fuels produced in other regions. Privately-owned residential, small business, and nonprofit solar systems would be made dramatically less effective by this effort by investor-owned utilities to monopolize solar energy production at the community level.

We need everyone concerned about the future of clean, local, and fair energy in Dubuque County to contact their representatives in the Iowa House and Senate to oppose House Study Bill 185 (new number coming soon now that it’s out of committee) and Senate Study Bill 1201.

The House Bill has passed out of committee, so it’s especially important to contact members of the House Commerce Committee, but we also need you to contact your own representatives to oppose this bill on the floor. Read the House Bill HERE.
